Good news: our Technical Services Department is recruiting for a Materials and Maintenance Planning Manager

YOUR DAY-TO-DAY ROLE

At the heart of our business, you will be working with the Technical Services Manager to ensure the rail wagon fleet is maintained safely and in compliance with maintenance plans, UK legislation, and industry standards. The role oversees maintenance carried out by in-house technicians and third-party workshops, ensuring all work is accurately recorded in the CMMS (2020M) to maintain compliance, traceability, and fleet reliability.

Your responsibilities:

Materials

• Manage UK wheelset stock and maintain accurate records of condition, size, location, and remaining life.

• Produce weekly wheelset stock reports for the Technical Services Manager.

• Visit repair sites as required to verify stock records and carry out audits.

• Analyse maintenance data to forecast wheelset, parts, and workshop requirements.

• Develop and maintain maintenance planning reports to support future workload planning.

• Attend weekly maintenance planning meetings and support delivery of agreed priorities.

• Monitor the Wagons Out of Service report and provide regular status updates.

• Chase progress on repairs and resolve issues delaying wagons from returning to service.

• Share weekly maintenance plans and progress updates with the Technical Department.

Maintenance

• Review maintenance reports and provide updates on wagons needing repairs.

• Check maintenance data and resolve any errors or missing updates.

• Keep maintenance records up to date in the CMMS (2020M).

• Update repaired wagons on the TOPS system.

• Prepare weekly staff planning reports.

• Support administration tasks, including payroll and purchase orders.

• Assist with wagon refurbishment and maintenance projects.

• Help prepare KPI reports, environmental returns, and audit documentation.

• Support fleet improvement and digitalisation projects.

• Assist with ad hoc projects and cover for the Rail Technical Manager when required.

YOUR PROFILE

Experience & skills

• Min 4 good GSCEs passes, including maths and English

• Education to A level or equivalent.

• Project management skills

• Mechanical engineering background or interest

• Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office software

• Some experience at a supervisory level is essential.

Interpersonal skills

• Ambition and confidence to grow with the company

• Willingness to travel within the UK as required by the role

• Full clean driving license

• Organised analytical self-starter

• Confident and proficient with IT software.
