Female Support Worker

Pay Rate: £13.13 per hour

Shift Pattern: Waking Nights - Monday - Sunday - 22:00pm - 9:15am - 33 hours per week (3 night shifts per week)

We are looking for a compassionate, reliable and enthusiastic Female Support Worker to join a dedicated team supporting a lady who lives at home with her husband in a village outside of Nottingham. You will provide predominantly 1:1 support, with some 2:1 crossover, helping her to live safely, comfortably and as independently as possible in her own home.

The person we support is verbal and has a high-level spinal cord injury (C6/7 Tetraplegia). During your waking-night shifts, you will support with personal care, stoma care, repositioning and mobility, alongside completing light household tasks such as washing and ironing. This role is about much more than providing care. We are looking for someone who will take the time to get to know the person we support, understand what is important to her and provide consistent, respectful and person-centred support.

She enjoys gardening, visiting garden centres, reading and swimming, and even has her own pool at home.

Experience and Skills of a Support Worker:

• Have previous experience within complex care, although full training can be provided to the right person.
• Have experience supporting someone with a spinal cord injury, although this is desirable rather than essential.
• Have experience with, or be willing to undertake training in, stoma care, repositioning and personal care.
• Be confident supporting with mobility, moving and handling.
• Be comfortable providing personal and intimate care in a respectful and dignified manner.
• Be reliable and comfortable working waking-night shifts.
• Be proactive and willing to complete household tasks such as washing and ironing during the night.
• Promote independence, dignity, choice and quality of life.
• Have excellent communication skills and be able to build a positive and trusting relationship with the person we support and her family.
• Be patient, observant and attentive, recognising and reporting any changes in support needs.
• Be comfortable working independently on a 1:1 basis, as well as alongside another Support Worker during periods of 2:1 support.
• Be patient, observant and able to recognise and report changes in the person's needs.
