Job description - the role

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you’ll take ownership of completing on going customer due diligence risk assessments for business customers across a wide range of products and policies, using your expertise and judgement to evaluate due diligence and manage varied workloads, including complex cases and queries. As part of this, the role will include customer outreach via outbound/inbound telephony to obtain relevant due diligence information. You’ll act as a trusted Subject Matter Expert in Financial Crime processes and procedures, confidently interpreting policy and providing clear, practical guidance on Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorist Financing (CTF), sanctions and bribery risks.

You’ll also play a key role in building strong, effective relationships across Financial Crime Operations and wider business and risk teams, often engaging at a senior level to influence outcomes and support decision-making. Alongside this, you’ll continually look for ways to improve processes and service delivery, contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance both efficiency and the overall customer experience.

If you have financial crime analyst experience and are highly organised, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and combine excellent attention to detail with communication, we'd love to hear from you.

  • Have an understanding of financial crime and the associated processes, being able to proactively make assessments while following strict guidelines.
  • When needed, be a point of contact with clients for incoming and outgoing communication via telephone and written methods such as email.
  • Assess and analyse cases while liaising with other frontline teams to make decisions, build a clear picture of each client, ensure that necessary processes are followed and escalations are made when necessary.
  • Working within a multi-faceted role which will have rotating responsibilities and duties as the team you will be in is highly adaptable to business needs.
  • Further developing your skills in the role as the team’s focus adapts to new aspects of financial crime.

Candidate Profile: Key accountabilities, skills & experience

About you

We’re not just looking for your experience and skills. We’re also interested in who you are as a person. Why? Because our membership is made up of many kinds of people and we want our colleagues to be just as diverse.

  • Solid knowledge of banking Financial Crime policies, how they are applied to business banking customers and understanding of risk assessing customers
  • A solid understanding of banking operations and risk appetite, with particular insight into business customer types, industry sectors and the risks they present
  • A relevant qualification such as the ICA Certificate in Anti-Money Laundering (or equivalent) would be beneficial in this role.
  • Good understanding of PEPs and sanctions, along with the bank’s responsibilities in managing these risks effectively
  • Awareness of specialist banking products and services, such as Treasury, Invoice Finance and Trade Finance, and the risks associated with them

About the client

Why work at Nationwide?

We're different from other financial service providers. We're a bank, owned by our customers. And for over 130 years, we've supported those customers to make the most of their money and achieve what they want from life.

That's reflected in the way we work here at Nationwide. We come together to make sure we're doing things in the best way possible, both for each other and for our customers. If you join us, you'll be part of that. You'll be able to help us build something really quite special. And you'll have the opportunity to make a real difference.

As a mutual organisation, we are guided by a social purpose which we interpret as 'Building Society, Nationwide'. A key element of fulfilling this purpose is employing a mix of people that reflect the wider communities that we serve.

On top of that, we always want you to be yourself. To use your skills and experience to make our Society stronger. To feel valued for who you are, not just what you do. Because here at Nationwide, we understand that we can do more together than we ever could alone.
