We are entering the next stage of EMEC’s development with a refreshed strategy and ambitious plans for the business. This creates a rare opportunity for an experienced Senior Project Manager to join our Senior Management Team, lead our Project Management team and have a real influence on how EMEC develops and delivers.

Our Project Management team leads some of EMEC’s largest and most strategic projects and client relationships. The role combines leadership of that team and complex project delivery with commercial management, major tenders, strategic client relationships and the development of new opportunities. We are looking for someone who can move comfortably between organisational priorities and the detail of getting projects delivered well.

Reporting to the Consultancy Director, you will oversee a portfolio of major projects and contracts, working across our Ecology and Land Management teams and with clients, subcontractors and delivery partners. You will lead major tenders and the mobilisation of new strategic projects, develop key client relationships and ensure our work is well planned, commercially sound and delivered to a high standard.

As a member of the Senior Management Team, you will contribute to EMEC’s direction, business planning and performance and take responsibility for delivering agreed areas of our strategy. We are particularly interested in someone who brings an entrepreneurial approach, builds strong relationships and can spot opportunities to improve how we work, develop our offer and create value for our clients and for nature.

What you'll be doing

• Lead the successful delivery of concurrent projects and major contracts from inception and mobilisation through to completion.
• Take responsibility for programme, scope, resources, budget, commercial performance, risk, quality and contractual requirements.
• Maintain reliable project and departmental forecasts covering resources, revenue, costs, margin and anticipated final margin.
• Manage project scope and change, ensuring variations and additional work are identified, agreed and appropriately valued.
• Manage contractual requirements and risk, including NEC and other standard forms of contract where applicable.
• Lead, support and develop EMEC's Project Management team.
• Strengthen project management practice and consistency across the business.
• Coordinate delivery across EMEC teams, subcontractors and partner organisations.
• Build and develop key client relationships, understand future requirements and identify opportunities for repeat and additional work.
• Lead major tenders and proposals, coordinating technical, operational and commercial input.
• Lead the planning and mobilisation of new strategic projects and contracts.
• Develop effective relationships with subcontractors and delivery partners to support larger and more integrated delivery.
• Contribute as a member of the Senior Management Team to EMEC's strategy, business planning, organisational performance and development.
• Lead agreed strategic projects and improvements, including new approaches and ways of working where these improve delivery, client outcomes or commercial performance.
• Support effective quality, environmental, health and safety and risk management across project delivery.

What we're looking for

We are looking for an experienced project manager with strong commercial judgement, leadership skills and the confidence to build relationships with clients and lead complex work.

You will bring:

• Significant experience of managing complex projects and multiple workstreams.
• A strong track record of delivering to programme, budget and quality requirements.
• Strong commercial awareness, including project budgets, forecasting, cost control and profitability.
• Experience of contract (including NEC) review and management, managing scope, risk and change.
• Experience of managing multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors and delivery partners.
• Strong client and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience of leading competitive tenders and proposals.
• Experience of developing new client relationships or areas of work.
• Experience of leading and developing people.
• Strong planning, organisation, judgement and problem-solving skills.
• A recognised project management qualification such as APM PMQ, PRINCE2 or equivalent professional experience.

We are open to candidates from a range of sectors. You do not need to be an ecologist; strong project, commercial and relationship management experience from environmental consultancy, infrastructure, engineering, construction or another relevant project-based environment could be equally valuable. What matters is that you can work effectively with technical specialists, understand the demands of complex project delivery and bring the leadership and commercial judgement the role requires.

Travel will be required, so a driving licence is essential.
