Mechanical Design Engineer

RECRUITMENTiQ is working in partnership with a UK-based technology company that designs and manufactures high-performance ultrasonic transducers and sonar arrays, to assist in their search for a Mechanical Design Engineer in Glasgow.

Principally, you must provide technical leadership in mechanical engineering design as part of the concurrent engineering team, ensuring effective and efficient mechanical design processes and outcomes to support the continuing success of the Company as a world-leading ultrasonic array designer.

The role must provide effective project management and technical leadership in design and manufacture of ultrasonic arrays. Client-facing project management will be a key part of the role, covering all aspects of the project design lifecycle and providing high-level and timely feedback to the client; this role will act as a single point of contact for a client on a given project.

The role will also involve the mechanical design function throughout the full product lifecycle, producing CAD models and detailed 2D-drawings to produce both sub-contract machined parts as well as internally manufactured components. Management of sub-contractor output and commitments will also be a key part of the role.

It is expected that an understanding of up-to-date developments in the field shall be developed and maintained through published academic and industrial literature. This role will have significant involvement in internal R&D programs, as instigator, project manager and researcher.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Project management of mechanical designs, from concept to final design review, to meet customer requirements specification through the creation and control of 3D CAD models and 2D drawings within company QMS.
• Provide a high-level mechanical design approval function to ensure accurate models and drawings are produced.
• Provide accurate Finite Element Analysis of mechanical design to ensure compliance with functional requirements of design, to customer requirements specification.
• Generate accurate detailed manufacturing drawings and Bill of Materials from CAD model
• Liaise and collaborate with customer engineering and design teams
• Provision of bespoke tooling design to support manufacturing requirements of design aims.
• Creation and implementation of Manufacturing Instruction (MI) and QMS documentation in support of new product development
• Assemble tooling, and provide training to production staff on correct use and implementation. Training to be provided via MI documentation and signed off for QMS.
• Create and implement new and improved processes to maintain and improve production quality. Define, initiate and drive all internal prototype mechanical requirements to provide effective risk reduction of customer requirements specification
• Management of formal project design review process as required by QMS.
• Provide comprehensive and effective project management and customer point of contact for designated projects
• Provide customer project updates as defined in customer requirements specification, for all designated projects
• Provide high level technical support of mechanical engineering requirements within design and manufacturing during project development phase and into production
• Identify and implement creative solutions to provide process & technology improvement within manufacturing.
• Ensure Compliance to the Quality Management System.
• Work in accordance with company Health & Safety Procedures.
• Any other duties as required to meet the demands of the organisation as directed by the management team.
