Mental Health Charge Nurse - Inpatient Mental Health Nursing

Join NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde as a Mental Health Charge Nurse (Band 6) and play a vital role in delivering high quality, person centred mental health care within our inpatient services. As an experienced Registered Mental Health Nurse, you will lead by example, supporting patients through their recovery journey while helping to shape compassionate, safe and effective care environments. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

• Leverndale Hospital
• Full-time, permanent
• Monday to Sunday, rotational day and night
• Day shift time 07:00 to 1940, Night shift 19:00 to 07:40

Key responsibilities:

• Deliver and coordinate high quality, recovery focused nursing care for patients with complex mental health needs
• Undertake comprehensive assessment, care planning, implementation and evaluation of individualised care programmes
• Carry out risk assessments and contribute to effective risk management planning to support patient safety and wellbeing
• Provide leadership, supervision and support to registered nurses, healthcare support workers and learners
• Act as Named Nurse, developing therapeutic relationships with patients, carers and partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes
• Take charge of the ward or department in the absence of the Senior Charge Nurse, ensuring safe and effective service delivery
• Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, staff development and the promotion of evidence based practice

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

• Registered Mental Health Nurse with current NMC Level 1 registration
• Educated to degree level or able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and experience
• Specialist knowledge of mental health nursing, including risk assessment, risk management and physical healthcare needs
• Evidence of ongoing continuing professional development and commitment to maintaining professional standards
• Experience of supervising, mentoring and supporting the learning and development of others
• Sound understanding of relevant mental health legislation, rights based practice and the NMC Code
• Excellent leadership, communication, decision making and organisational skills with the ability to work autonomously within a dynamic inpatient environment
